Odds & Ends 2

Between the comments of the my last post and people I have talked to, my mystery knobs and switches box is more then likely a home brew lighting controller. And yea It would probably make a excellent airport freak out device, especially if had a battery strapped to it with the lights on.

For Odds & Ends 2 I present this wooden box and its contents:

I found this box when I was helping my grandparents clean out my grandmothers cousin's apartment after he past away. We threw out tons of stuff, but there were a few things that I thought would be a shame to toss. The man seen the world and was a WWII vet, he even had some news papers with the attack of pearl harbor on the front page. I saved this box because I thought it was interesting, not sure what it was originally for and I have no idea what is written on it. As far as what was in the box when I found it the shrapnel always interested me the most. He received a purple heart, and I cant help but think that's the chunks of metal that helped him earn it.

I have been told that the little figurine is of a Pope and was carried by french solders in WWII, there where 2 of them but I gave one to my cousin.

  9. I'd be interested in having someone read the inscription both on the outside of the box in ink, and on that engraved plate. It looks like your typical trinket box, but that engraved plate makes me thing of machined parts and whatnot.

Probably a long shot from it's original purpose, but if your grandmother's cousin thought it was worth keeping, it probably is. :)

    Hold onto it.

  20. Airport freak out, more of a "Automatic arrest device" They'll be on you the second you walk in the airport holding that thing if you connect a big battery to it
